The Youth of Chad
The Evangelical Church of French Speakers Farcha in Chad has faced many challenges in the last 3 years. More specifically, the church structure is facing division, refugees are blaming the country for their problems, and the government is working to become an Islamic nation. With tension on all sides, the body of Christ in Chad, amazingly, remains undeterred in their efforts to further the gospel.
Located near a university, this church of 480-550 is 90% youth. Here, teenagers to young adults alike lead the way in spiritual development, evangelism, and community outreach. Though most attendees first join the church while furthering their studies, many obtain jobs within the area and remain past graduation.
The ECFSF's desire is for the youth to establish good roots, become strong, and grow to change the nation. All week, these young people are spiritually fed in Sunday service, Sunday school, Thursday bible studies, and prayer meetings. Additionally, the group stays engaged in the community and frequently goes on outreach to surrounding neighborhoods. Jesus tells us in Luke 18:16, “'Allow the children to come to Me, and do not forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these!'” The youth of Chad are proving that agedness is not required to be the hands and feet of Christ Jesus.
Culture and Outreach
Visits from neighbors are common in this communal culture. On any given day, a person could invite the entire commune over for dinner and many would join! The ECFSF is using this sociable mentality to their advantage. Before 2020, it was safe to evangelize openly. In recent years, however, concerns for security and safety have put open-air evangelism aside. These days, the ECFSF goes 2 by 2, door to door.
With their hospitable nature, owners of the homes give the evangelists their time and invite them in if further discussion is welcomed. The goal is preaching the gospel. If the homeowner faces problems, a follow-up contact is given and the young ministers move on, staying focussed on the mission.
Regarding wider-spread outreach, the ECFSF strategizes with other churches to invest in the surrounding unreached peoples. Currently, the ECFSF has a particular focus on the Kanembu group and is actively looking to plant a church where many Kanembu and refugees are located. Additionally, one young man is on mission in the North, getting ready to distribute Bibles in the primarily Islamic area.
Prayer Requests
The Lord is doing a great work in the nations and we are excited by the opportunities that lay before the Evangelical Church of French Speakers Farcha. Please join us in prayer as we consider the unity of the church, bridges for the gospel to the unreached, peace between Muslims and Christians, and the upcoming presidential election of Chad.
May God bless you abundantly.
