From Under the Trees to a Thriving Community

The OLCAP Vision in Lukanji

The story of Lukanji Community Church didn’t begin with a building; it began with a heartbeat for prayer. Years ago, Nancy, OLCAP’s Project Manager, started a simple monthly fellowship for local women. At the time, Lukanji—a gold-mining region in Western Kenya—was a place where true hope felt out of reach. For six long years, this small congregation met under the shade of trees, braving the rain and wind because they lacked the resources for a permanent home. But where others saw poverty, OLCAP saw potential. As a vital global team member of SWHarvest, OLCAP stepped in to turn those prayers into a physical reality, helping the community build a sanctuary that now stands as a beacon of light for the entire region.

Today, OLCAP’s work in Lukanji has grown into something far greater than a single church building. It is a movement of “faith in action.” While the region has long been held back by traditional religious barriers and a lack of access to the Bible, OLCAP is breaking those chains through intentional, personal outreach. They aren’t just visiting for a week; they are living out the Gospel daily. By providing medical care for those who have no doctor, mentoring students in local schools, and screening the Jesus Film in local dialects, OLCAP is ensuring that every man, woman, and child in Lukanji hears the message of Christ in a way they can truly understand.

Our recent Mission Week was a powerful celebration of this ongoing work, but the impact stretches far beyond a seven-day event. During this time, OLCAP led a massive effort that reached over 2,600 people, resulting in 768 individuals choosing to follow Christ. These aren’t just statistics; they represent families being restored and a community being reborn. Because OLCAP is rooted in this community, they are uniquely positioned to ensure these new believers aren’t left alone. Through weekly discipleship, Bible studies, and leadership training, OLCAP is building a foundation of faith that will last for generations.

Looking ahead, OLCAP’s vision for Lukanji is a “Great Harvest” that touches every part of life. We believe the Gospel is best demonstrated when we meet the needs of the whole person. That is why OLCAP is integrating spiritual ministry with practical, life-changing initiatives like clean water projects, healthcare clinics, and skills development for women and youth. By empowering the people of Lukanji to lift themselves out of poverty, OLCAP is showing the world that with God, all things are possible. We invite you to be part of this transformation as we continue to support OLCAP in their mission to change lives from the inside out.
