This summer, the people of Narowal in Punjab, Pakistan, faced one of the most devastating floods in recent memory. Heavy rains submerged vast stretches of farmland, wiping out entire crops that families depend on for survival. What was once a source of livelihood and daily bread became an expanse of water and loss.
Even Kartarpur Gurdwara, one of the most sacred and historic sites in the region, stood in the flood’s grip—its towers barely visible above the waters. The image of a holy place surrounded by destruction captured the depth of the crisis and the vulnerability of local communities.
Amid this devastation, the Church of Pakistan Lahore Diocesan Council, under the leadership of Bishop Nadeem Kamran, stepped forward in compassion. Recognizing the urgency, Bishop Nadeem partnered with government officials to reach the worst-hit families. Together, they organized relief distributions, ensuring that food packages were placed into the hands of those who had lost everything.
These simple parcels of food meant more than physical nourishment—they carried hope, dignity, and the assurance that these families were not forgotten. The collaboration showed what is possible when faith communities and civic authorities come together in the face of disaster.
While the waters will eventually recede, the long-term impact remains. Farmers will need months—perhaps years—to recover from the destruction of their crops and livelihoods. Families face the hard reality of rebuilding with little to fall back on.
